Tick & Mosquito Control Services
Many of us have put significant work into our home's outdoor areas and would love to enjoy these spaces free of common pests with our friends and family. Though DIY control products are an attractive option, Tick and Mosquito control services may be a better choice for those who want to regularly use their backyards without the hassle of constant treatment.

There are many great providers of Tick an Mosquito Control in the Pittsburgh region. It is important for everyone to do their own research, but below are is some general information to consider when making a decision.
Costs
For quality service, don't be surprised to pay anywhere from $400 to $800 for a season (generally for properties less than .5 acres) which approximately lasts from Mid-May through September.

Some pest control providers may be cheaper, but this often requires you to sign up for other pest control services as well as getting locked into a contract for some amount of time.
Availability
It is always a benefit to have a service provider that you can get in contact with quickly if you have an issue and who will respond quickly.

This is were local control services have an edge as opposed to the national or regional chains; you likely have a direct line to the owner.
Chemical Product
Killing and repelling is the name of the game for Tick and Mosquito treatment: kill any pests that got on the property and then repel any future encroachments.

Though we would all love a natural/organic solution, the most effective treatments will likely have some portion of commercially produced chemical insecticides in their spray blends. These chemicals are regulated by state agencies and should be safe for children and pets after they dry (but, again, do your research on the provider).

When evaluating a service provider's treatment, be sure to determine how long the chemical product lasts and its water resiliency (i.e.: does it become less potent after a hard rain).
Treatment Frequency
Especially for mosquitos whose life span can be as short as 7 days, the frequency of treatment is important. Often, once per month treatment won't deliver the desired level of control.

Check to see if providers with do "on-call" treatments between regularly scheduled service.
Professionalism
Does the service provider seem well organized and thoughtful? Do they have the required licenses and insurances? This provider will be coming onto your property. You want to ensure that they are careful and will follow any special instructions you provide.
